Carine, Bi Han, Jun Wen and I were discussing why yawning is contagious while queuing up for food.

And the answer is that the researchers still dunno why!
Thought there is some biological reason underlying the contagious yawn. However, the answers were by just suggestions. Shocked right! By nature, we think people are smart. So smart that whenever we google something, we know we will get the answer.

Most recent answer:

Recent studies show that the phenomenon is also related to our predisposition toward empathy -- the ability to understand and connect with others' emotional states. It sounds strange, but whether or not you're susceptible to contagious yawning may actually be related to how much empathy you feel for others.

Empathy is an important part of cognitive development. We learn from an early age to value ourselves based on the amount and type of empathy our parents display, and developmental psychologists have found that people who weren't shown empathy by their parents struggle later on in life.

So empathy is important, sure, but how could it possibly be related to contagious yawning? Leave it up to psychologists at Leeds University in England to answer that. In their study, researchers selected 40 psychology students and 40 engineering students. Each student was made to wait individually in a waiting room, along with an undercover assistant who yawned 10 times in as many minutes. The students were then administered an emotional quotient test: Students were shown 40 images of eyes and asked what emotion each one displayed.

The results of the test support the idea that contagious yawning is linked to empathy. The psychology students -- whose future profession requires them to focus on others -- yawned contagiously an average of 5.5 times in the waiting room and scored 28 out of 40 on the emotional test. The engineering students -- who tend to focus on things like numbers and systems -- yawned an average of 1.5 times and scored 25.5 out of 40 on the following test. The difference doesn't sound like much, but researchers consider it significant. Strangely, women, who are generally considered more emotionally attuned, didn't score any higher than men

Contagious yawning is associated with the same parts of the brain that deal with empathy. These regions, the precuneus and posterior temporal gyrus, are located in the back of the brain. And although the link between contagious yawning and empathy has been established, explanations for the link are still being investigated.

One suggested answer:

Like contagious laughter and contagious crying, scientists have theorized that contagious yawning is a shared experience that promotes social bonding. It could diffuse stress after a period of being on high alert and spread a feeling of calm through a group.

Another one:

Although this “contagious” yawning behavior is not understood, it has been suggested that this could be the result of an unconscious herding behavior — a subtle way to communicate group behavior, such as when a birds follow the behavior of one bird, and all rise together as a whole flock.

Hope u didnt yawn reading this post. I thought it was interesting!

Skipped 2 hrs lecture and went to bro's promotion-to-SGT-parade!
Pasir Laba Camp at Joo Koon. He was in the Artillery dept. Some tank driving or what. Not so sure. lols.

He was worried i will get lost or sth. Msging me the night before and the early morning. AIYOHs! I now know Jurong better alr!! He went to fetch us at the gate and brought us to the seats where we could see him clearly better.

Dad said he wanna help us take and mum laughed, "U sure u know or not?!"

Dad: "Of cos lahs! Just press the button only what!"

Bad Mum & Ego Dad

Mum wasnt even looking at the camera!

Bro gave me this note. He has drawn our location and his. He drew 7 squads and actually there are 6 only lols. I miscounted and kept aiming my camera at the wrong person. That guy looks exactly like my bro. hahas. Only until I zoomed to the max that i realised it wasnt him. lols. I had to go down to the front to double check when they march past. I got it right the second time. :)

Spot my bro!
His face was covered by the person in front. So angry. He could have slanted himself a little for me to take his face right!

Marching in

Parade Inspection by the Deputy Prime Minister.
He is a real tall man!

Only with this holding gun pose that i see him.
The line he was in was abit crooked. 2nd column 3rd person!

Just kept trying to take his face but he was always blocked no matter what angle i tried.

It's time to put his rank for him.

Nice! Just that something is growing on Dad's head lols. A little dark too!

Bro with his SGT rank

Dunno why they wanna stand so straight.
Mum said Dad looked so old here and Dad denied.

The throwing of berets when the parade ended.
I know i didnt capture any beret in the air.
Oh, let's not talk about my slow reaction. lols.

It was a touching sight to see them hugging and throwing one another.
Brothers that survived together :)

HAPPY PROMOTION BRO!
STAY STRONG AND CHEERFUL IN THE ARMY!
May your laughter be ever contagious, your actions be ever hilarious and your cheerfulness + vainness be spread around the camp.

A short post before i continue with my work lols.

I wanna say..
I havent got enough time! :(

U know..
A few billion years ago.. Earth used to rotate only few hours a day (~6 hrs).
Imagine 3 days of daylight & 3 hrs of night time.
Will work still be 8 hrs a day?
Omg.. imagine 1 hr of sch/work, 1 hr of entertainment, 1 hr of meal & 3 hrs of sleep!

Imagine singing ktv for 1 hr with friends and then it's time for bed. No fun!
Imagine using 1/2 hr to do assignments (maybe workload is much much lesser). But maybe school work will still able to eat into my sleep.

And.. Earth was and is rotating at a slower speed everyday. (Due to its slightly tilted rotation about its axis & pull of gravity from surrounding planets). That's why, it is now 24 hrs a day, That means few billions years later, there will be 48hrs a day (24hrs of daylight & night time).

Imagine 12 hrs of work/school a day (3 coffees a day to keep awake)
12 hrs of sleep a day. (Wows! Maybe SKII wont sell that well by then)
12 hrs of play (FUNx10)

12 hrs of assignment time! (SIANx1000)
Will the world be a better place to live in?

but i believe that work is not as efficient and effective.. Cos we are slowing down the pace of our lives by almost half.

Thus, instead of having the human lifespan to be about 80 years, it will decrease to 40 years.
WOW so scary! Dying at the age of 40 without achieving much. The future 40 year old person is actually our current 80 year old person.. It means when u are 40, u have no energy to walk, play and lots of white hair.

(The above knowledge was gained from my Astronomy lecture last week.)

My verdict? 24 hrs a day seem to be more of an advantage.
I shld stop complaining and get back to work! ;)
Hope I cheer u up my dear stressed friends!
Although 24 hrs never always seem to be enough, but nothing is ever enough for us humans :P

I have inserted the 'Like' button lols!

Let's welcome my 3rd new member to the sugar bunnies family!

I was giving tuition from 5 30 to 9 oo and havent taken dinner. Had Yoga earlier on and was famished! Wanna have some prata with simba but i passed by mac intentionally hoping to see this toy on Today's Happy Meal Offer. And i was overjoyed to see it! Even though i was kinda guilty (since i had Happy Meal twice already!), but i really wanna get it lols.

Had my 2nd Yoga lesson today! The same instructor taught us more strenuous poses than the last time i went. I was perspiring all over after 1/2 hr and felt so much satisfaction. I was trembling! So scared that i faint. Getting so addicted to it lols. This time i tried my best to stretch to the fullest and felt my right shoulder dislocate! lols! ;) I really hope to go everyday if my ex colleague can afford the time hahas! Then maybe the next time u see me, i will be 3kg lighter and the proudest girl! i will hold my nose up high when i see u lols.

After having done two MATLAB (Computer Program) assignments and 1 presentation for FYP last week, i thought i could rest for the weekend. But just last friday, my FYP prof said, "I have uploaded the topics for your individual presentation and your MATLAB assignment 3. Upload your work to our lab Wikipage by next Tuesday."

Great! Never ending. :)

I have just presented my mini lecture last friday. (Poor me was shaking when i started talking! I got 2 concepts wrong and Prof was really nice. He didnt pinpoint me but re-explain them to my FYP mates.) I realised during the previous 2 presentations, my FYP mates were very nervous too. I guess it's because we are learning from one another and everyone is listening hard to what information u are trying to convey. And esp Prof was just beside us asking numerous questions.

I showed a Mathematical equation in one of my slides and he asked, "Have u tried deriving this equation?"
I gave him a stunned and blank look and he said, "Okie, then do u know how to derive it?"

....

Then i replied, "I think.. erms.. sth using Snell's Law.."
And he smiled, "Yes, using that.. and (i forgot what he said)... u can derive it. Pls try it at home."
Phew..!

Prof: "How is that acceptance angle got to do with the optical fiber's core diameter?"
Me: "Erms.. (Try HARD to explain).."
Got the wrong concept wrong.. lols!
He began drawing some scary diagrams on the board on wave physics. My FYP mates were very puzzled, like i am.
Omg! I still have a looong way to go!

I thank school.. School has pushed me to know the meaning of "I worked hard and am still working hard." lols!

13th Sep - Simba's birthday!
Took photos of what i have bought for him.

Pencil Case, Water Bottle & Watch

The pencil case looks quite girlish but i thought it was sooo cute. I want to buy another one for myself but the price made me hesitate till now. lols
.

The Seal Birthday Card

The Fossil Watch.
It gives Digital & Analogue time. I love it too. I wrote in the card, "I know u never wear a watch out. I used to not wear it too. However after my friend and you bought watches for me, i realised how convenient it can be. I realised that although a handphone can be multi tasked, it can't be overworked! And in the case where your handphone's batt runs low and fails u, u still have your watch to tell u the time.

We had a mini celebration for the mini guy in school.

The tiramisu piece of cake i bought from school's cafe

No smoker in our clique so he had to pretend that there is fire on the candle. lols!

bf and i!

Sharon, Bi Han

Kevin

The lovely friends :)

After school, Simba and i went to Wheellock Place's Skinny Pizza for dinner.

I went openrice.com and found Skinny Pizza's fantastic review. My verdict was just like the review. Do bring your loved ones there!

The menu

I wanna try this 1 metre sausage the next time i come
looks super tempting.

I love this apple cinnamon drink. It has 2% alcohol but it costs only $3.

Turkey Ham Pizza. ($25)
We werent very full after finishing it as the crust is made of nachos.

Trying to take the 'saw' and look as if he is going to hack u.

A piece of the pizza. I love how the lighting made the silver fork shine.
The oil on the turkey and the nachos made it gleam! Love the pic.

I didnt know blueberry with turkey can taste so flawless!

The Lobster Linguini ($22)

LOVE THE FOOD!
AND THE SERVICE IS FAR FROM WHAT YOU CAN IMAGINE!
Every staff is trained to be so nice!

Our total bill was $62 btw. Dine in now for a perfect dining experience.
