2. Thanks for learning the phrase "WHY NOT!" from a menu we saw at the Laksa restaurant in Johor.

Whenever I ask why, u replied why not.

'Why do u think this way?"
"WHY NOT!"
"Why don't we eat here?"
"WHY NOT!"
"Why is this so?"
"WHY NOT!"
"Why? What do u mean?"
"WHY NOT!"

In the end, i didnt get an exact answer to everything i ask.

The mall opposite my house NEX shopping mall is open!
Omg.. Simba and i went to grab something to eat just now & I CAN TELL U IT'S HUGE!




I was wearing my Sec 3 class t shirt and looking very shabby. My face was scary, bare and full of dark rings, my hair was in a big mess and i thought since i am going to just buy a meal and come back, so i wont see any friends.




And I was all the while looking down, hoping no primary/secondary friends will spot me (Most of such friends live near u right!). And Stanley my sec 3 friend called, "HUI JIN!!!!!" I smiled awkwardly lols! Luckily there are too many people & we didnt talk. So he didnt see me close up. We just merely say hi! Heng!
Great~ He must have recognise our class t-shirt first omg!


Looking at some girls who dress so nicely to shop at NEX i felt rather guilty. lols!
But my house is just opposite! :P







Serangoon is the BEST place to stay.

We've been spending too much lately on good food. omg. Exams are coming & glad that we would be able to save some $ in the meantime.




Wanted to go on a short trip with simba after exams but guess it can't be fulfilled now. Prof hinted me to stay in Singapore during school holidays for FYP. lols!

Simba came to my house on Hari Raya. And he said, "Oh.. maybe your room is messy.."
I turned my head to him and he said, "No no i mean messy is good. I like messy people."
lols! So funny! He is always 'the not direct'.



He continued with "Cos i saw this mountain of clothes on your bed. Maybe u should fold them neatly..? I also saw all your things splattered all around."

"Okie, why not u help me?"

He made a constipated look lols and said, "Okie, but when your mum comes back from work, u have to tell her i folded all for u k?"

"NO PROBLEMS!"


lols! I took out all my clothes enthusiastically from my messy wardrobe and put them all on my bed. He began folding them one by one while i prepare my upcoming presentation. Secretly smiling to myself! :P HAHAHAHAHA Evil laughs!




Younger bro came in & asked me to buy PS3 with him. Pay 50% of his new PS3. I was like "WHAT????" lols! He said his friend is offering him an attractive price now. $690 with 2 free games & a controller. Faints!




Later that night simba went packing his PS3 into a nice box. And the next day simba brought along the box all the way to my house in the morning before we went to school. He said he would lend my younger brother his until the end of Dec.

Went to Joanna's house to give Joanna's mum tuition today. But she wasn't at home. I rang the bell thrice & was wondering why no one answered the door. I was about to call Joanna's mum when the door opened very slowly. The tiny Joanna came out & said, "My mum is not around. I think she will only be back by 8 30pm. My dad went to pick my brother from the child care centre. I am alone at home."

"Oh is it? Did she forget? I try to call her okie?"

I began ringing her mum but her phone was switched off. "Is her phone battery low?"

"No no no! Her battery was very very high!"
Lols! First time i hear people say phone battery is high!


"Think i go home then. Can u help me inform your mum that i was here?"

"No no, u come in first. Cos she said she would be back around 6 45pm like that.. Maybe she is coming back already."


lols! Although her last sentence contradicted her first sentence, but I believed her. Then i realised i made the wrong decision. lols! She just wanted my attention.

"U know.. I didnt dare answer the door just now. My father said never open the door to strangers. So i stepped on a chair and peeped through the peep hole and saw your big face!"

Then she showed me her newly bought terrapins and threatened to take the terrapin out and point its head at me.

I told her no i am afraid of terrapins. lols! "I used to have terrapins but i was braver & much more curious when i was younger. Now that i'm an adult, i become more timid."

"WHY?"

"I dunno. I guess all adults become more timid when they grow up." (i lied i know!)



Then she had an idea. She blew up a balloon till it grew very large. OMG. I am so scared of the bursting sound of balloons! I covered my ears and she just kept blowing & laughing at me. lols!



I then made funny faces at her & she laughed, releasing the balloon. Phews!


She started facing away from me and began blowing up the balloon again. I closed my eyes and covered my ears! She held the big balloon, pointed it at me & said, "Dont be afraid. Open your eyes! I will release the balloon on u okie?" And off the balloon went, releasing air on my legs. She said it is like a massage. omg. She did it for a few times & i said, "Maybe your mum isn't coming home so soon. I go home now okie? U open the door for me?"

"But I don't want to be home alone. u wait till my dad is back okie?"



It was a FRIGHTENING evening for me. No balloons for my kids next time hahahahaha.



She asked me whether i knew how to fill a balloon with water. I replied no (hahahahahas) & she showed me by putting the end of the balloon onto the rim of the tap and letting water flow into it. 'See! This is how u fill a balloon."

She took the balloon that is filled with water and asked me to hold it. "It is heavier right?"
"Yes."
"Now u know water is heavier than air. That is a science experiment."


LOLS hahahahas so cute!
I just pretended i dunno anything & she felt so proud of herself.




This scenerio was so familiar.




Went to meet Prof on Tuesday. He had asked me to do some averaging of the data i have gotten. I didn't really know how to use matlab very well so i used Linux code instead (I learnt it from my supervisor during my attachment.)



I showed Prof and he formed a smile. "U know Linux? Great!"
"Yeah.. I learnt it during my IA.."
"Wow.. Which company are u attached to?"

He looked at the code and said, "I didnt know there are these commands in Linux."

lols! Prof is trying to be humble so that i will feel encouraged.
I guess when u treat your tutee sincerely, your prof treats u sincerely too.
That is what we call "sha ren you sha fu". lols!

Hooi Ling & I went to be the subjects for our Masters student's experiment. He is conducting a statistical study on brain activity to help the lower IQ patients achieve higher IQ.
Because the probe has to be held on my hand & placed on my left forehead using my hand, i felt so tired doing that. lols. We had to:

- close our eyes & listen to music for 2 mins,
- do a memory test quiz for the next 3 mins,
- then music for 3 mins,
- quiz 3 mins,
- music 2 mins.

When i try to relax closing my eyes, i was actually trying hard not to think of anything. Then when i do the quiz, i was half awake. lols! So tired!



My results turned out to be real funny. There should be a higher level of oxygen consumption by the brain when i am focusing doing the quiz, but mine didn't. It was the same signal all throughout. lols! Then my phd student laughed. She asked, "Why were your 'relax' moments same as your 'focus' moments?"



Omg! Seems like i slack so much like that!!!



Hooi Ling's results turned out to be really good. Her signals were so distinctive! The Masters student was so pleased.

I told simba i'm not a very good subject. I knew the Masters student needs a good result yet when i am supposed to relax, i kept thinking, "Why is it taking so long? I'm so tired.. Okok.. Cannot think cannot think.. Must think of nothing.."


When it is time to focus, i was thinking, "Why is it so hard to remember? Is it done?" Then i felt like giving up. lols. I got 19/20 for the 1st round & 13/20 for the 2nd round.


I told Prof and he said, "If u are trying hard to think of nothing, u are using energy.. U should instead try to observe your thinking.. In fact, that is what meditation is all about, isn't it?"

Ooops.





I am pleased to announce that i have a new found friend in my course. That's Hooi Ling. lols! She is sharing the same FYP prof as supervisor with me. So glad that someone is able to understand & encourage me! :) And someone able to talk non-stop with me. We share the same interests & character. lols! I really like her. She is great!




I told her that Prof wants me to conduct an experiment on mice in Jan & i'm real scared. And she said she would go with me! So nice to not be alone.



I have one more friend on top of my clique & bf to take a photo with in my grad ceremony. God certainly works in a miraculous way.

Just had our Business Plan presentation on Monday. :)
We proposed an idea of setting up a study cafe at West Coast Community Centre, targeting mostly school students. I love the idea. Think we will really be loaded if we were to set this cafe up. lols. I always forgot how to spell 'humble'.



With Sharon's professional camera, we did a photoshoot ourselves.
Found a plain wall by pushing the sofa in the lobby away. lols!

After that, Xiang kidnapped simba to play LAN at Jurong Safra. I tagged along too.
They played for 3 hours. I was really tired at during the second hour, i slept in my chair. lols. That is regardless of the gunshot sounds & the loud noises produced by the computers in the room. :P

Xiang dated simba to go again next week. I told him that simba's exams are coming..
"13th, 14th, 15th, 21st and 23rd of dec."

And Xiang grinned & said, "Mine is 13th, 14th, 15th, 16th, 17th, 21st, 22nd & 23rd." lols. I forgot he was taking 8 modules. He overloaded his modules so that he can go to the US to take his FYP next semester.


Qing Yao told me the latest TV schedules (channels 8 & U). lols.
He can just spent his days watching TV but score really well in exams. Yes, we are talking about someone who is from Raffles Institution & Raffles JC.




Simba, Xiang & Ching Siang could relax all the way till exams & just breeze their way through their days in Uni. Why am I not born as intelligent? SO ANGRY! LOLS!

Also went for dinner with my poly friends at the Barracks. Chosen by Daniel.

Indeed it was. But we forgot to take more photos of our background.

It was Ting who told me the pizzas were like the Skinny's Pizza. Cos she remembered that she saw my blog with photos of many grasses on my pizzas at Skinny Pizza. lols.

I ordered Prawn Capelini again. I forgot i ordered it before at Skinny Pizza. I only wanted to order the lowest price food :P. Then Samuel asked me to just eat the Garlic bread -_-"




Samuel & Daniel went observing how i eat. Sam said i ate so slowly even though i took a large amt of spaghetti on my fork. I just bit a little off my spaghetti & put my fork down again. They just dunno why i had to do that. And they asked me why. I said, "I DUNNO! ARE U ALL IN A HURRRY??? WHY MUST EAT SO FAST???"





It was like i became their experimental subject and the experiment title was "Eating slowly could make your friends think you are a freak" or something.

The Squid Ink Pizza that i was reluctant to order that day at Skinny Pizza. (Cos it looked so black in the menu).
We shared it together. It was awesome. Esp the sotongs. and esp i dont have to pay a single cent. lols. (The pizzas we shared was paid by our 2 working adults, Daniel & Ting).

I finally remembered to bring along my Taiwan gifts for them. I bought Ting & Joanne a handphone pouch each. I bought the guys a doraemon bowl and a cup. And the moment i took them out of my bag, Daniel's face turned black lols! Real funny.
He was awaiting his gift when i was happily distributing my gifts to Ting & Joanne first. And was disappointed.
Sam was laughing all the way as he couldn't understand why when i saw the bowl & cup on display, i will think of Dan and him.
And i forgot to remove the price tag. lols. They seemed affected that they are only worth $3.50. lols. Paisehs! Cos i had to buy 20 over gifts and so have to save abit ma! Spent over $100 for just buying gifts.




When i went home, simba asked, "How was the outing? Did they like your gifts?"
I looked down & said, "Oh.. Do I always eat real slowly? And why did they not like my gifts?"
Simba was like, "I told u! i thought i asked u whether they like or not and u say yes?!" lols.

British Airways Flight 9 was a scheduled British Airways flight from London Heathrow to Auckland, with stops in Bombay, Madras, Kuala Lumpur, Perth, and Melbourne.


The aircraft flew into a cloud of volcanic ash thrown up by the eruption of Mount Galunggung (approximately 180 kilometres (110 mi) south-east of Jakarta, Indonesia), resulting in the failure of all four engines.

As the flight progressed, smoke began to gather throughout the passenger cabin of the aircraft and it was at first assumed to be cigarette smoke. However, it soon began to grow thicker and had an ominous odour of sulphur. Passengers who had a view out of the aircraft windows noted that the engines were unusually bright with the light shining forward through the fan blades and producing a stroboscopic effect.




At approximately 13:42 UTC (20:42 Jakarta time), engine number four began surging and soon flamed out. The flight crew immediately performed the engine shutdown drill, quickly cutting off fuel supply and arming the fire extinguishers. Less than a minute later, at 13:43 UTC (20:43 Jakarta time), engine two surged and flamed out. Within seconds, and almost simultaneously, engines one and three flamed out prompting the flight engineer to exclaim, "I don't believe it—all four engines have failed!"




Despite the lack of time, Moody the captain made an announcement to the passengers that has been described as "a masterpiece of understatement":


“ Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. We have a small problem. All four engines have stopped. We are doing our damnedest to get them under control. I trust you are not in too much distress. "

Maybe he was in so much of stress or sth, he totally doesn't care about the calmness he has to instill in the passengers on-board. Needless to say, by using the word "damnedest", the courtesy wont be there too.


It is equal to saying...

“Ladies and gentlemen, captain here. We are dying!! Please be prepared."





Many passengers wrote notes to relatives. One such passenger was Charles Capewell who wrote "Ma. In trouble. Plane going down. Will do best for boys. We love you. Sorry. Pa XXX" scrawled on the cover of his ticket wallet.



So cute! Short, optimistic notes. It definitely sounds much better than "I'm dying with our kids. Sorry to leave u all alone in this world..."



Eventually, due to quick decisions & accurate predictions made by the flight crew, the plane did an emergency landing & all the passengers were fine.





The crew received various awards, including the Queen's Commendation for Valuable Service in the Air and medals from the British Air Line Pilots Association. Following the incident, the crew and passengers formed the Galunggung Gliding Club as a means to keep in contact.

One of the passengers, Betty Tootell, wrote a book about the incident, All Four Engines Have Failed. She managed to trace some 200 of the 247 passengers on the flight, and went on to marry a fellow survivor, James Ferguson, who had been seated in the row in front of her. She notes: "The 28th December 2006 marks the start of our 14th year of honeymoon, and on the 24th June 2007 many passengers and crew will no doubt gather to celebrate the 25th anniversary of our mid-air adventure."

Was googling some flight crash info and prevention safety.. (some project for school).
Came across this article that said about why we should take extra measures and precaution before flight. Interestingly, it talked about the reason being not to let our ancestors down..

Because the pioneers have gone through lots of effort trying to make the airplanes work. Even to the extent of giving up their lives. This pilot was trying to make his newly-made aeroplane fly but it crashed down to ground shortly after. In his death bed, he said, "Sometimes, sacrifices are just necessary..."


Some people just live to fulfill their goal aren't they?


Thursday 04/11
After much struggle, i finish plotting the curves based on my experiment.
The phd student then assigned me to plot the curves in one graph. Things are always okie when u try to plot individually, but it always outputs many errors when u try to plot many. so i spent a number of hours trying to troubleshoot the problem while waiting for jun wen to end his fyp meeting. I promised my phd student tt i will email her my results that very day.

Temptations went great when simba wants to go play LAN games with xiang, ching siang & qing yao. Somemore ching siang can drive us to dobhy ghaut & i will escape the 1 and 1/2 hr train ride back home.

lols! So off i went with them, with the problem lying at the back of my head. oops! Was wanting to stay in school till 10pm to finish up but .. its a public holiday's eve! Maybe my phd student needs to rest tooo. lols!



We ate dinner and dessert at Jurong pt before we head down to paradiz centre. THE HONGKONG DESSERT MANGO SNOW ICE WAS FANTASTIC! I love it! The shop name is 'ji de chi' at jurong pt 2.



i spend a few dollars hogging the computer surfing the internet at the LAN shop. Reading some notes for my quiz next week too lols. The guy beside me must be thinking i'm crazy. Studying in a LAN shop???



But he was so scary. He has thick specs and a zai nan look. lols! Throughout his game of warcraft, he was flipping his shirt up and scratching his fat tummy and back. omg. I began to doubt the cleanliness of the computers there. i was freaked out.




My last post i talked about last Monday being my last day of giving tuition to Joanna. I sad to live for myself this time.. But now.. I had to take back my words. She asked for tuition just once a week, not thrice anymore. Out of some softheartedness again, i agreed. But she promised to stop for awhile during my exams in dec. :) I successfully stopped the philipino kid's tuition luckily.

Yeah! Having tuition once a week now is really really better!! :)
Living for myself seems too self-centred. So i live abit for joanna then lols.

This really inspired me! Have i forgotten that i wanna try applying to be a poly lecturer after few years of work experience? lols. She just reminded me. I wanna teach engineering maths!





Simba and i tried some restaurants lately. Was pretty happy that my tuition pay can allow me to afford more good food. lols. I've been watching my expenses no worries. At least i'm holding back the urge to buy 18 pieces of clothing at the Editor's Market for far too long.

Surprisingly, the staff remembered me and junwen even though we came only e 2nd time after a month. :) Their customer service is uncomparable. No other restaurants' service can be compared to them!

I recommended carine the apple alcoholic drink. it is still under promotion of $3 instead of $5.50.
Still loving it.

The Squid Ink pizza simba ordered. I actually wanna order but after carine told me the crust is black, i got pretty scared. lols.

I ate the bay prawn capelini instead.

Carine was like, "Why u all buy cake?" We already ate it in school. I ate many alr. I sort of grew tired of eating them." Lols. "Out of my 5 celebrations, i went to 3 pizza/pasta restaurants. Including this." Ooops! Everyone thinks carine likes cake and pasta.



Simba with the murderous look and weapon. He got a pimple on his nose that day. I told him i will help him photoshop away the pimple. And yeah i did it! I used Paint and painted white over his nose. There isnt a beige color lols!









We also went to the Taiwan Cafe at Scape.

After our bad food experience at Taiwan, we being very not risk-averse, we tried the food at the TAIWAN cafe. lols.






And the nai cha! Just like the Hong Kong cafe's. erms... Tot there suppose to be a bit difference?

Simba's beef rice was nice surprisingly.

My spicy and sour noodles were tasty too.
We came up with a conclusion.. Food at Taiwan Cafe in Singapore has to suit taste of Singaporeans. They would have to shut if they just serve very bland food over here. (We love spices and sauces!)




I remembered i got pretty upset when KFC in Taiwan has no chilli sauce, and the hotpot soup tastes like water. The salad is like grass (no mayonaise! no 1000 island!), the weird breakfast noodles. I think only the jian dan (fried egg) i bought every morning is the tastiest.




We were early for class one Monday and went for the 1-for-1 treat at Swensens! My favourite seafood black pepper pasta never fails me!
